Tottenham Hotspur came from behind to draw 2-2 with League One outfit Wycombe Wanderers in a behind-closed-doors friendly at Hotspur Way.
In a match added late to Spurs’ pre-season schedule, the North London side used the opportunity to rotate their squad heavily, with both first-team players and academy prospects seeing action.
Mohammed Kudus Missing
One notable absentee from the Tottenham lineup was new signing Mohammed Kudus, who had made his debut just days earlier against Reading on July 19.
The Ghanaian international was not part of the squad that faced Wycombe. According to the Evening Standard, in a further blow, midfield dynamo Rodrigo Bentancur was pulled from the matchday squad shortly before kick-off due to illness.
Despite these absences, there were positive signs as Richarlison, Wilson Odobert, and Brandon Austin all registered their first pre-season minutes, highlighting the game’s purpose as explained by Brentford manager Thomas Frank—giving players vital time on the pitch ahead of the new campaign.
It ends 2-2 at Hotspur Way.

Bright Start and Early Goal
Tottenham began the match on the front foot, dominating possession and pushing forward with intent. Their efforts were rewarded within the opening 15 minutes when Pape Matar Sarr opened the scoring.
The Senegalese midfielder, deployed in a more advanced role, reacted quickest to a rebound after Wycombe goalkeeper Mikki van Sas failed to hold Odobert’s powerful strike.
The early lead seemed to set the tone for the match, with Spurs continuing to press. Captain Heung-min Son, Pedro Porro, and Richarlison all came close to doubling the advantage, but a mixture of profligate finishing and alert goalkeeping kept the scoreline at 1-0.
Wycombe’s Fortunate Equaliser
Despite being second-best for much of the opening half-hour, Wycombe found themselves level through a slice of fortune. Armando Junior Quitirna unleashed a shot that took a heavy deflection, wrong-footing Brandon Austin before slipping through the goalkeeper’s legs. It was an unfortunate moment for Austin, who otherwise had a composed outing.
Wycombe’s confidence grew after their goal, and they began the second half with renewed energy. Daniel Udoh provided an excellent assist, holding off defenders before teeing up Quitirna once more. The winger made no mistake, rifling a powerful finish past Austin to complete his brace and give the visitors a 2-1 lead.
Spurs Chase the Game
Tottenham reacted with urgency and nearly equalised through Pedro Porro, whose deflected shot rattled the crossbar. Tempers flared at one point when Cristian Romero caught a Wycombe player in the face with his elbow, a challenge that could have seen red on another day but went unpunished.
With the clock ticking and Wycombe holding their advantage, Spurs turned to their youth ranks. Among the standout performers was Tynan Thompson, who impressed in his second-half cameo. The young midfielder first assisted Sarr for the equaliser, finding him in space before the Senegal international smashed home his second of the game.
FT: Tottenham 2-2 Wycombe.
A good run out for the lads, who got about 65-70 minutes before coming off and an academy XI replacing them. Pape Sarr with both goals for Tottenham. Tynan Thompson the academy star who looked most exciting at the end. 👀

Thompson nearly capped his appearance with a goal of his own, dragging a shot narrowly wide in the dying minutes.
As planned, manager Ange Postecoglou withdrew the remaining senior players by the 75th minute, leaving the responsibility to the club’s academy stars. They saw out the remaining minutes confidently, and the match ended 2-2, an encouraging result given the heavy rotation and experimental nature of the lineup.
While the game will not go down in any record books, it provided a valuable workout for the squad, highlighted individual performances from youth players, and gave the coaching staff key insights as they prepare for the upcoming season.
With more pre-season fixtures on the horizon, Tottenham will look to build on this showing, hoping to fine-tune their squad and integrate new signings like Kudus into the team framework ahead of competitive action.
