Al – Hilal Defeated and Eliminated from the CAF CL : Al – Hilal Omdurman are eliminated from the 2022/23 CAF Champions League following their 3-0 defeat against Al Ahly at the Cairo International stadium on Saturday night.

Ghana defender Ibrahim Imoro started and completed the match but David Abagna Sandan was not part of the match-day squad of the Sudanese team.

Mahmoud Abdel Moneim Abdel Hamid Soliman commonly known as Mahmoud Kahraba broke the deadlock in the 25th minute on the service of Ahmed Abdelkader.

El Shahat Hussein made it 2-0 in the second half in the 65th minute thanks to Percy Tau’s assist before netting again nine minutes from full time to put Ahly in a comfortable 3-0 lead.

It was the third goal of El Shahat in the Champions League this season whilst Kahraba has 4 goals now in the competition.

Searching for qualification to the knockout stage on Egyptian soil was always going to be difficult for Al – Hilal after failing to seal their place in the quarter-finals against Mamelodi Sundowns who drew 1-1 at the Al Hilal Stadium on March 18th in a match that saw El Tahir miss a 90th minute penalty for the home side.

Had the team of Florent Ibenge won that match , Al – Hilal would have qualified to the next round with 12 points after 5 matches played making tonight’s encounter a mere formality but that is not the case as the most successful club of African football reign supreme in front of a strong Cairo crowd to impose a 3-0 defeat on their opponents.

Mamelodi Sundowns , who defeated Coton Sport on Saturday in Pretoria , and Ahly advance from Group B. Coton Sport and Al – Hilal are eliminated.

However since Sundowns topped the group with 14 points , they will be seeded meaning they will host the second leg of their quarter-final tie.
