Bofoakwa Tano skipper Saaka Dauda could be heading to Kumasi Asante Kotoko following Bofoakwa’s relegation from the Ghana Premier League.
If the deal is completed, Dauda will become the 6th transfer of Prosper Narteh Ogum’s side in the current transfer window.
Kotoko have already captured Congo defender Ndongani Samba Gilbani Oneil, Sudan duo Esmat Abadalhamid Mohammed and AbdoelKarem AbdoelRahman Yoouef Yagoub, Emmanuel Antwi on a free transfer from Great Olympics, and former Liberty Professionals forward Elvis Kyei Baffour.
Saaka scored 8 goals for his team in the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season including a brilliant strike against Hearts of Oak as Bofoakwa Tano defeated the Phobians 1-0 at the Sunyani Coronation Park on 30th September last year.
Sources have told Ghanasportsmarket.com the transfer fee involved is around GHC 150, 000 to be paid fully to the Sunyani-based side by September 2024.
The 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season kicks off September 6th and it has been a significantly busy transfer window for the Reds who are determined to banish the ghost of a trophy-less 2023/24 campaign.
How Will Saaka Dauda be Used in Ogum’s Set Up?
He enters into direct competition with Kyei Baffour and Youef Yagoub for the number 9 role in Ogum’s most preferred 4 – 3 – 3 formation.
The 25-year old Baffour started and excelled in the 2-1 Democracy Cup triumph against Hearts of Oak on July 17th in Accra as he assisted his team’s winning goal. He pressed and dispossessed defender Kelvin Osei Assibey before sending an inviting ball for Peter Amidu Acquah to score with a powerful right-footed shot.
However, Kyei Baffour is best known for his Premier League days at Liberty Professionals before he moved to Tunisia in October 2020 and Slovenia three years later.
As for Youef Yagoub, he is something of an unknown quantity in Ghana and will fancy the chance to prove his mettle to boss Ogum and Kotoko fans.
Saaka, one of the longest-serving current Bofoakwa Tano players, is a rapid striker with clever runs and movements. He is a versatile attacker who is able to flourish playing in central attacking position or on either flank.
If his form at Bofoakwa Tano is anything to go by, then he should improve the Asante Kotoko offensive department.
Asante Kotoko Predicted Starting Line-up in 2024/25 Season:
GK Frederick Asare
Emmanuel Kotei, Samba Oneil, Justice Blay, Esmat Abdulhamid
Andrews Ntim Manu, Emmanuel Antwi, Baba Yahaya
RF Peter Amidu Acquah, CF Elvis Kyei Baffour, LF Saaka Dauda
Another possible line-up could see Justice Blay moved into his natural midfield position with Baba Yahaya likely to be sacrificed as Nurudeen Mohammed comes in to play alongside Oneil.
