Ayew and Badu Reject U20 WC Investment Return: Key members of the 2009 Ghana national U-20 men’s team have reportedly rejected a GHC 70k return on an investment done by government on behalf of the Black Satellites squad that won the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Egypt.
The government is understood to have invested GHC 10, 000 in the name of each player of Sellas Tetteh’s contingent that made matchless history of becoming the first African team to win the U-20 World Cup.
After 15 years, the profit of the investment is in the region of GHC 70, 000 for all the 21 players who were also gifted a car each.
Ghana secured the trophy after beating overwhelming favourites, Brazil, 4-3 on penalties in the final after 120 minutes at the Cairo International Stadium.
Black Satellites skipper Andre Ayew scored Ghana’s first kick before Agyeman Badu converted the winning penalty to land the World Cup for Ghana.
Now according to Joy Sports, more than ten players have gone for their payment, but senior figures such as Ayew and Badu want more explanations.
According to the same source, the duo as well other members deem the return insignificant and have not gone gone for their monies as they seek more details from the top brass in charge.
