Azumah Nelson reveals why current Ghanaian boxers are struggling to become like him !

Azumah Tells Why Ghanaian Boxers Can’t Become Like Him : Legendary Ghanaian boxer Azumah Nelson has cautioned young boxers against indiscipline and love for money if they want to get close to achieving any of his feats.

Azumah Nelson had a storied boxing career, making his name in Africa and by extension the World.

Out of 47 matches, Azumah Nelson won 39 while emerging victorious by way of knockouts in 27 of them. He lost only six of his bouts.

When recounting how he achieved all those remarkable feats on his 65th birthday, ‘The Professor’ as affectionately called owed it to hard work, humility and the fear of God.

He went on to advise young boxers to focus on making themselves better through massive discipline rather than focusing on money. According to him, current boxers lack the willingness to endure difficulties.

“Anyone who wants to be like me ought to learn a lot and be disciplined.

“It will take a miracle to produce another boxing legend because most of our contemporary boxers can’t go through the pain and hard work with humility and the fear of God, they don’t have it,” he told Akoma FM.

“What they think about is only about money and that can’t be possible.

Other feats of Azumah Nelson include the WBC featherweight title between 1984 to 1987 as well as the WBC super-featherweight title between 1988 and 1997.

Meanwhile, Ghana hasn’t won a world title since 2019 when Richard Commey knocked out Russian Isa Chianev in round two to become the IBF Lightweight champion, a title he lost months later.
