Befitting Burial for Christian Atsu

Befitting Burial for Christian Atsu : The mortal remains of former Black Stars player Christian Atsu Twasam arrived in Ghana on Sunday night after the Hatayspor winger was found dead under the rubble of his residence that collapsed due to the 6th February earthquake that hit Turkey and Turkey.

The former Newcastle United player was on the books of Turkish Super Lig side Hatayspor for the 2022/23 season.

The Ghanaian came off the bench to score a stunning free-kick against Kasimpasa on February 5th during a league match before the disaster struck a day later.

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia represented the government to receive the remains of the ex Ghana international at the Kotoka International Airport.

“The tragedy that occurred in Turkey about a week ago is one that was devastating and we anxiously and nervously prayed that out brother Christian Atsu will be found alive.

We hoped against hope every day that passed. We prayed and prayed but at last when he was found he was no more.

I will like to take this opportunity on behalf of the President and the government to extend our sincere condolences to the Twasam family.

Atsu’s twin sister and his brother accompanied him from Turkey home. I will like to extend my condolences to all of them and the entire family for this deep loss.” Dr. Bawumia said.

The vice President went ahead to assure the Twasam family that their son will be given a befitting burial with government of Ghana’s assistance.

“And I will like to say the state will be fully involved with the family in providing him a befitting burial. Thank you very much for your attention” he added.
