Black Galaxies head coach Mas-Ud Didi Dramani pulled a shocker when he omitted leading goal scorer of the Ghana Premier League this season from his matchday squad for the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations qualification match against Nigeria on Sunday.
The offensive player, who has scored the most goals in the GPL this season, was not part of the 18-man match day squad, even though he is not injured.
The Ghanaian team drew 0-0 to their West African rivals at the Accra Sports Stadium as the home side failed to create enough goal scoring opportunities.
Former Asante Kotoko boss Didi Dramani handed starting places to Kotoko forward Albert Amoah, Stephen Amankona of Berekum Chelsea, and Heart of Lions attacker Mustapha Yakubu.
Didi had the likes of Derrick Fordjour and Jerry Afriyie of Though FC on the bench – both of whom he introduced in the second half – but there was no place for 2024-25 GPL top scorer Charwetey who has planted 8 goals in 13 games for Nations FC this term.
Dramani’s decision raises eyebrows given the 22-year old, who netted 13 times in 11 matches for Division One side Akatsi All Stars in 2023-24, has been more productive than each of the offensive players deployed against Nigeria.
The second leg is scheduled to take place on 26th December with the winner of the tie advancing to the CHAN finals which is slated for February next year.
