Black Queens Continue Fine Form Under Nora Hauptle : The Black Queens continued their impressive form under coach Nora Hauptle as they extended their unbeaten run with a 7-0 thumping against Rwanda in the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers.
The team squared off with their Rwandan counterparts at the Kigali Pele Stadium on Wednesday in the first round of qualifiers walloping their opponents in their own backyard to secure a first-leg advantage in the tie.
Braces from Evelyn Badu and Anesthesia Achiaa as well as goals from Doris Boaduwaa, Priscilla Adubea and Alice Kusi ensured that Nora Hauptle secured her six win out of six since taking over in January.
The seven-goal tally means the Swiss tactician has recorded 21 goals without conceding after six matches under her watch with impressive wins in high-profile friendly matches as well as competitive clashes.
She took over as the team’s new coach in January, succeeding veteran Mercy Tagoe, and has since won consecutive friendly matches against Benin and Senegal. Under her leadership, Ghana defeated Senegal 3-0 and 1-0 in a doubleheader that took place at the Accra Sports Stadium in April after defeating Benin 3-0 at the Stade de l’Amitie in Cotonou in her first match.
The team therefore carried on their form into their first competitive matches under Hauptle as they secured a 7-0 aggregate win over Guinea in the Women’s qualifiers for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France. Ghana beat Guinea 3-0 in Conakry in the first leg and finished the job with a resounding 4-0 win at the Accra Sports Stadium.
With another impressive 7-0 victory over Rwanda in the first leg of the WAFCON qualifiers, the Nora Hauptle now has a 100% record and are aiming to extend it in their subsequent matches.
