Daniel Nii Adjei Questions Ghanaian Players’ Effort to Learn : Sea Lions coach Daniel Nii Adjei has quickly jumped to the partial defence of Ghanaian soccer coaches as many people believe the current generation of local coaches are not good enough to succeed at the top level of African football.
Ghanaian clubs and national teams including the Black Stars have failed to impress in recent competitions and a lot of people have put the blame on lack of quality of coaching.
One of such persons is former Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko great Charles Taylor.
“When you travel , that is when you realize that we don’t have quality coaches here. Travel and you see the difference and that is why our players fail to replicate their form over there. They have excellent coaches there. But here what we have are local champions. If you cannot win games against Madagascar , Guinea and co , then what are you?. Simply they are not good enough to compete outside Ghana” , Taylor stated in an interview with Kumasi-based Fox FM.
However , Nii Adjei who also played for Kotoko has a different opinion as he questions the players’ effort to learn and improve.
“I have heard people say we don’t have good coaches in Ghana but we have to also ask ourselves whether the players are learning or not”
“A coach can train and teach you but is it up to the player to grab it or fail to learn. I personally learned a lot from my coaches and they had an impact on my career. We were learning during our time. So that is another area we have to look at whether our current players are learning what they are being taught ” , he added.
