David Alaba Explains Benzema Snub : Austria national team captain David Alaba has made a public statement after it was revealed he did not vote for his Real Madrid teammate Karim Benzema for the Best FIFA Men’s Player of the Year 2022.
Lionel Messi of Argentina and Paris Saint-Germain won the award with 52 points , France attacker Kylian Mbappe came second with 44 points whilst 2022 UEFA Champions League winner Benzema finished third with 34 points.
The four voting groups that decide the winner of the prestigious accolade are national team coaches , national team captains , selected journalists and fans.
Alaba placed eventual winner Lionel Messi on top of his list and put Benzema after La Pulga whilst he picked Mbappe as his third choice.
But the former Bayern Munich defender has offered some explanations after some fans targeted him online for snubbing club teammate Benzema.
