David Ocloo Reacts to 5-1 Home Defeat against Medeama : Medeama SC produced a strong performance to humiliate Hearts of Oak by 5-1 at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday afternoon in their Week 31 Ghana Premier League encounter as red-hot striker Jonathan Sowah netted a brace.
Talented winger Derrick Fordjour put the visitors ahead in the 17th minute with a clever finish from outside the box but goalkeeper Richmond Ayi could have done better even though the ball bounced off the ground making it difficult for the former Techiman City custodian.
In the 31st minute Ibrahim Salifu , Most Valuable Player of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League season , converted a penalty to equalize for the hosts after Caleb Amankwah was brought down in the Medeama area.
Two minutes later , the Yellow and Mauves were handed the same favour as Fordjour was caught in the box by Caleb Amankwah and penalty specialist Vincent Atingah successfully converted to restore his side’s lead.
It was the 11th goal of the season for the former Ebusua Dwarfs and Hearts of Oak center-back. Medeama proved too strong for their hosts as Jonathan Sowah netted in the 42nd minute to make it 3-1.
The two-time FA Cup winners continued to dominate their rivals with two more goals from Sowah in the 84th and Kwesi Donsu in the 88th as Hearts of Oak were condemned to an embarrassing 5-1 home defeat.
This means the team of Augustine Evans Adotey have defeated both Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko on the road this season.
The full transcript of the post-match reaction by interim head coach of Hearts of Oak David Ocloo is produced below.
On the 5-1 score line :
“It’s very embarrassing like you said. We came with a plan but nothing worked today. Congratulations to Medeama. They played well and very clinical.
We gave them too much time and space on the ball and in football when you give your opponents time and space and he will punish you.”
On Title Chances of Hearts of Oak :
“Yeah , yeah the title chase for us is over. We play now to get a respectable position.”
Medeama are now leaders of the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League standings on 53 points in 31 matches contested as they have a golden opportunity to win their first ever league silverware.
Meanwhile Hearts of Oak are 6th on the league table with their 45 points in 31 games.
