Derek Boateng Wants GFA Talk to Afena-Gyan : According to former Ghana international midfielder Derek Boateng , the Ghana Football Association (GFA) must go to Italy and hold talks with striker Felix Afena-Gyan in order for the Cremonese striker to feel important and that he will be a great addition to the Black Meteors team for this year’s CAF U23 Africa Cup of Nations.
Boateng believes the GFA did not treat the former AS Roma attacker right saying that “Ghanaians have not been fair to that boy, so I support his decision to decline an invitation (by Ghana U23).
“If the FA thinks about him and his mental issues, they have to take a plane there and talk to him so that he feels important. This under-23 AFCON that they want to go, they will need him if they want to win,” said Boateng.
“He needs to feel that we care about him because these are the things we do that make us lose players.”
Boateng bases his argument on the point that footballers need to be mentally healthy in order to be able to perform.
“Football is no longer about going to the field and performing a lot of things that people don’t care about and only blame players for not performing.
Because football is all about the brain, you can never perform if you don’t have a good mindset.
He was our best player in both of our games against Nigeria. Because we were playing one top, he was the player who was fighting four Nigerian defenders.” , the former Getafe player added.
