England scraped through to the quarter-finals of UEFA Euro 2024 after coming back from a goal down to clinch a 2-1 extra time win against Slovakia.
Ivan Schranz put The Falcons ahead in the 25th minute after holding off Marc Guehi before Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane scored incredible goals in the 95th and 91st minutes to send England into the last eight.
In search of the equalizer, the Three Lions boss introduced three substitutes including Ivan Toney coming on for Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden in the 94th minute.
Toney went on to assist Kane to score the match winner, however, Southgate, speaking to BBC Sport made and interesting revelation about this substitution:
“We lose Marc Guehi for the next game and we have a few days to recover as that has taken everything, but what a lift for the players.
“I had belief we would get a goal. The boys that came on, Ivan (Toney) played a big part – he was disgusted at me putting him on at that moment (94th minute when England trailed 1-0).”
