Roberto Mancini has left his position as head coach of the Saudi Arabia national men’s team, fourteen months after he assumed the role.
The Saudi football federation made the announcement on Thursday.
The 59-year old Italian tactician had a decent successful career winning several trophies including 3 Serie A titles with Inter Milan, Premier League and FA Cup honors with Manchester City, and European championship triumph with Italy in 2021 before taking over the Saudi job back in August 2023 in deal reported to worth $25 million per year.
Mancini’s Saudi team were eliminated in the Round of 16 of this year’s Asian Cup after losing 2-1 to South Korea. Recent results have been disappointing with Saudi winning just one of their last four 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification matches of the Asian Zone, prompting the federation to react.
According to the Saudi Arabian FA, the former Manchester City boss left his role by “mutual agreement”.
In his 14-month spell as Saudi Arabia head trainer, Mancini picked up 8 wins, 7 draws, and 5 losses in 20 matches. working out at 40% win percentage.
