Moldova Super Liga side CSF Spartanii SPORTUL has announced the signing of former Asante Kotoko winger Isaac Oppong.
The talented 21-year old joined the Porcupine Warriors in the 2021/22 season from Sunyani-based lower-tier side Bectero FC and went on to play an influential role as the Reds clinched the Ghana Premier League title in his first year at the club.
However, hampered by niggling injuries, Oppong failed to reach his full potential at Kotoko and was part of the Porcupine Warriors’ player exodus ahead of the 2023/24 season that has seen more than 21 players released from the Kumasi-based side.
Oppong is best known for his 14-minute masterclass cameo on his Kotoko debut in a 3-1 triumph against Dreams FC on the opening week of the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League campaign at the Accra Sports Stadium on 30th October, 2021.
The eventual champions were losing 1-0 to a 64th-minute breathtaking goal by current Leicester City winger Fatawu Issahaku.
Ogum then made three changes in search of an equalizer – Richard Boadu and Dickson Afoakwa replacing Fabio Gama and Stephen Amankona in the 63rd minute respectively while Oppong took the place of Joseph Amoako in the 77th.
Dreams thought an opening day victory was almost secured, however, the former Bectero star was an instant impact as he assisted Salifu Mudasiru to equalize four minutes from time before Oppong in the 89th to put Kotoko ahead.
Richmond Lamptey sealed the memorable victory with a third of the afternoon as Kotoko recorded a 3-1 win. With a goal and an assist as a super substitute, Oppong was voted man of the match.
Oppong’s new side travel to Sheriff Tiraspol on Sunday in a Matchweek Two encounter in the 2023/24 Moldova Super Liga.
Meanwhile, another former Kotoko player, Nicholas Osei Bonsu, is the second Ghanaian to sign for the Eastern European team.
