After the announcement of a pre-list of 25 names of the France Olympic Team to compete in the men’s tournament of the Paris Olympic Games, Thierry Henry spoke about the case of Kylian Mbappé, who was not selected but for whom the door are not completely closed.
On Monday, Thierry Henry unveiled a pre-list of 25 players selected to compete in the men’s tournament at the Paris Olympic Games (July 24-August 10).
A provisional list – evolving until July 3 – with many surprises and one absentee: Kylian Mbappé. The captain of the Blues, who will join Real Madrid, is missing, but that does not mean that the U23 coach has definitively thrown in the towel.
“You don’t draw a line, in hope. We don’t know what will happen but I have to give you a fairly real list but not start doing things where we don’t have anything in reality” , he admitted at a press conference this Monday.
“The list can evolve but you have to give a list so that the players can prepare. You don’t close the door to anyone. There is no discussion. You come, you ask, we tell you and you leave. Last time I took this many rejections was in middle school.”
“Direct” discussions with the leaders concerned
Faced with the refusals of many clubs who do not wish to release their players – the Olympics do not appear in the Fifa calendar – Thierry Henry recalled the difficulty of the task of composing a list, even if he indicated that there would be ” another player over 23 years old.”
“There will be three over 23s, but I couldn’t tell you more. But it’s not easy to ask the clubs who are within their rights.”
So is there any hope of seeing the future Madrid player double the Euro and the Olympics? The coach confirmed that the discussions with the leaders had been clear.
“The people I spoke with were very direct, yes.”
