Former striker David Trezeguet has criticized how Lionel Messi was treated in France

France striker David Trezeguet Defends Lionel Messi : Interviewed by ESPN on Friday, former France team center forward David Trezeguet (45 years old) regretted the treatment of the French public towards former PSG star Lionel Messi.

Arriving in Miami, the Argentine star recently unsubscribed from PSG Instagram accounts. The world champion does not hide it, he does not have good memories of his two years spent in the capital.

Between very cold or even non-existent relationships with PSG supporters, disappointing performances and results, especially in the Champions League and involvement in minimum service mode, there was simply no good connection between the Pulga and Paris.

Careful observer of his career, former Juventus attacker David Trezeguet  the most Argentinian of French players, believes that the French public, and in particular the Parisian fans were too harsh with him.

“I think France has never understood Lionel Messi,” the former River Plate and Newell’s Old Boys player told ESPN Argentina on Friday.

For the former idol of Juventus, Lionel Messi allowed Ligue 1 to become better known and to raise its level in terms of “football, image and prestige” compared to other leagues such as English, Spanish, Italian and German championships.

“The conditions were met for Leo to continue”

The former France striker (71 caps , 34 goals) goes further by adding :

“France has never appreciated Messi’s talent. After what happened, they must be very upset that he did not continue at PSG. Rarely has France had a player of this level in their league. The conditions were in place for Leo to continue. But the criticisms were harsh.”

David Trezeguet cites former players who have become consultants but spares his France 1998 partners. He cites Thierry Henry, Christophe Dugarry and Bixente Lizarazu who “defended Messi.”

Not tender with the French public, the champion of the world ( in 1998) and Europe (in 2000) is not tender either with PSG, to whom he criticizes their policy of stars.

“Its is the Champions League but it is not only won with names”, he concludes.
