Ghana Premier League Matchweek 15 Predictions: Gameweek 15 of the Ghana Premier League throws up some interesting fixtures with eight games scheduled to take place during the festive period.
Nsoatreman FC’s home match against Medeama SC has been postponed to 8th January, 2025.
Read on to see how the games are expected to end according to our GPL expert Gariba Raubil.
Legon Cities vs Aduana FC
Both teams head into Matchweek fifteen with poor form. Legon Cities have lost their last three in a row – 3-0 against Heart of Lions, 2-0 to Bechem United, and 3-0 at Nations FC. Samuel Fabin’s side have particularly struggled for goals with the last time they managed to put the ball in the back of the net happening in the 2-1 win over Basake Holy Stars on 17th November.
On the other hand, Aduana are undergoing a rough patch having won just one of their last 8 GPL games, drawing five and losing two. That victory came against Karela United on 10th November as Gideon Boateng netted the game’s only goal in Dormaa.
Prediction: I see this match ending in a draw. Legon Cities 1 Aduana FC 1 is my score forecast.
Basake Holy Stars vs Bechem United
9th-placed Basake Holy Stars tackle this home fixture having picked up three wins and two losses from their last five outings in the Ghana Premier League this season. They defeated Accra Lions 2-1 on 10th November, lost 2-1 at Legon Cities seven days later before securing two successive victories against Samartex and Young Apostles. In their last game, Holy Stars were battered 3-1 at Heart of Lions.
Bechem United, on the flips side, are 3rd in the league and enter this meeting in excellent form, undefeated in their last 9 matches and winning the last five consecutively. The Hunters have kept six clean sheets during this run and they have the monstrous goalkeeper Aziz Dari to thank for.
Holy Stars are the 4th-best home team in the 2024-25 GPL season with 14 points collected from 7 games while Bechem are 6th-best away side in the campaign with 9 points taken from 7 trips.
Prediction: I see a win for Bechem United. Holy Stars 1 Bechem United 2 is my score prediction.
Heart of Lions vs Young Apostles
Heart of Lions head coach Bashiru Hayford has said it might be too early for his side to be considered serious title contenders, but the clear truth is, the team would fancy the title just like Samartex did last season. Lions sit joint top of the league with 27 points alongside Bibiani Gold Stars after 14 rounds of matches. Hayford’s men are undefeated in their last 7 with six wins and one draw.
Young Apostles, meanwhile, are just a point above the relegation mire. This means a defeat can see them slump to the dreaded zone. The Wenchi-based side, who are 14th in the league standings are winless in their last three GPL games, losing twice to Medeama SC and Holy Stars before they were held 1-1 at home by Vision FC last time out.
Prediction: I forecast a win in favour of the table toppers. I say Heart of Lions 2 Young Apostles 0.
Asante Kotoko vs Bibiani Gold Stars
The Porcupine Warriors are set to parade newly signed striker Kwame Poku who has returned to the Reds for a second stint. Poku, who provided 6 league goals in 2020-21 season, is expected to boost Kotoko’s attacking department that already has the impressive Albert Amoah. The former Great Olympics, who has netted 7 times this season will be unavailable for this fixture due to his involvement with the Black Galaxies who play Nigeria on Thursday in a crucial 2023 CHAN qualifier.
Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum’s side sit 5th in the league with 24 points and are unbeaten in their last three, picking up three continuous wins – 2-0 against Aduana on the road, 1-0 against Hearts of Oak in Kumasi, and 2-1 over Dreams FC at the Tuba Astro Turf.
Bibiani Gold Stars head into Friday’s encounter with high morale and they go to Kumasi with their boss Frimpong Manso, a former Kotoko player and coach. Gold Stars are joint leaders of the league with 27 points alongside Heart of Lions. Manso’s side, however, have lost their momentum in the last five games, losing 1, drawing 2, and winning 2.
Prediction: I predict a win in favour of the home team. I say Asante Kotoko 2 Gold Stars 0.
Accra Lions vs Hearts of Oak
16th-placed Accra Lions lack consistency at the moment. Their bad season sees them languish in the relegation zone and things do not look likely to change during Matchweek 15 with Hearts of Oak as their next opponents. Accra Lions have won just one of their 10 matches in the league, drawing 6 and losing 3. However, they managed to pick a 0-0 draw at Aduana FC last time out in Dormaa.
On the other end, 6th-placed Hearts of Oak would be looking to start another strong run with a victory against Lions following their 3-1 success against Berekum Chelsea on 20th December at the University of Ghana stadium. The Phobians saw their four-game undefeated streak in the top-flight ended by Asante Kotoko at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium when a miscommunication between defender Kelvin Osei Asibey and goalkeeper Benjamin Asare gifted Albert Amoah a 95th-minute winner.
Prediction: I tip Aboubakar Ouattara’s men to dominate this battle. I say Accra Lions 1 Hearts of Oak 2.
Samartex vs Nations FC
Nations FC would be expecting to stun the reigning Ghana champions with head coach Kasim Mingle eyeing the GPL title after the 3-0 win against Legon Cities last time out. Nafiu Sulemana notched up a first-half brace and Berimah Baah sealed the success with a second-half third. Nations, who lost their last away fixture 1-0 at Accra Lions, would want to get their away form back on track.
Meanwhile, Samartex, are experiencing a torrid 2024-25 campaign as they sit 10th with 17 points. While they are not to be ruled out completely from the title race, Samartex have a very slim chance of defending their league trophy. They have lost their last four in the league, 1-0 each to Young Apostles, Holy Stars, Heart of Lions, and Bechem United.
Prediction: I forecast a win for Nations FC. My score prediction is Samartex 1 Nations FC 2.
Berekum Chelsea vs Dreams FC
This is a clash between two inconsistent teams. While Berekum Chelsea have won just one of their last 7 league matches, Dreams FC have secured two wins from their 14 games this term. Chelsea’s last win happened in the 1-0a way success at Nations FC courtesy Stephen Amankona’s 18th-minute penalty.
Dreams were winless in their first nine league games in 2024-25, picking up 5 draws and 4 defeats. Karim Zito’s side secured their first victories and their only wins of the season so far when they beat Medeama 1-0 on 9th November and Vision FC by the same score on 17th November. However, they failed to build on the excellent 2-game run, drawing 1-1 at Nsoatreman and losing 2-1 at home to Asante Kotoko.
Prediction: Though the two teams seem to have equal strengths heading into this match, I still expect Berekum Chelsea to win. I say Berekum Chelsea 1 Dream FC 0.
Karela United vs Vision FC
Karela United are 13th in the GPL standings with 13 points after 13 games and could drop to the relegation zone if they fail to win this one. The Tamale-based side have secured just 1 win from their last 6 league meetings, losing three and drawing two. They were held to 1-1 stalemate at home by Gold Stars last time out as Nasiru Abdul Karim scored in the 88th-minute to nullify Gold Stars’ lead.
Conversely, newcomers Vision sit at a respectable 11th with 15 points after 14 games, but they know they must do more to stay clear off relegation troubles. Just like Karela, the GPL newbies are struggling for results, taking just a win from their last 9 matches, losing 4 and drawing 4.
Prediction: I see this fixture ending in a draw. My score prediction is Karela United 0 Vision FC 0.
