“This is unprecedented” – Here is what Gianni Infantino said about African football after the 2026 FIFA World draw in Abidjan on Thursday !

Gianni Infantino’s Reaction to CAF 2026 FIFA World Cup Draw : This Thursday, July 13, 2023, the draw ceremony for the 2026 World Cup in the Africa zone took place in Abidjan.

President of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), Gianni Infantino spoke after the event.

Confiding in the press after the draw for the 2026 World Cup, Gianni Infantino remains fascinated by this edition of the World Cup which will see at least nine African representatives. A fact that seems out of the ordinary for the president of the world football body.

“For the first time in Africa, all African countries (54 countries) are participating in the draw to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. Each team will play ten matches, unheard of… At least nine countries instead of five, will qualify and perhaps also a tenth who will play the play-offs against teams from other continents. It’s incredible for African football, we have seen the enthusiasm and interest in this draw, “said Gianni Infantino after the draw.

You must be reminded that the first two matches of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers for the African zone will be played next November this year meaning teams will start knowing their fate even before the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations take place in Ivory Coast in 2024.
