Godfred Saka on Decline of Ghana Football : Former Aduana Football Club defender Godfred Saka believes there is a need to improve every aspect of the game in order to prevent a complete collapse of Ghana football.
The nosedive of the country’s number one sport cuts across all fronts ; both national team and club football and more concerns have raised after the failure of the Black Galaxies and Black Meteors at the 2023 CHAN and U23 AFCON tournaments respectively.
The situation is not any better in terms of quality players , quality officiating and stadium attendance and the former Black Galaxies right back has called for drastic measures to be put in place in order to revive the beautiful game.
“Things have become worse. At first it was not like that. Nowadays when you go to the stadium , you are able to count the number of spectators. You hardly could do that in the past and so why now. We need massive improvements in all areas so that the game we so much love will not be totally dead ” , Godfred Saka said on Fox FM in Kumasi.
“Even look at the current Hearts and Kotoko players , they are not ready to play because their quality is too low. You need to mentally tough to be able to play for these big clubs. I played some friendly games for Kotoko and so I know what I am talking about. ”
“Growing up , I saw the sort of players Hearts of Oak had. The time of Don Bortey , Ishmael Addo , Emmanuel Osei Kuffour and co I saw all of them because my house was closer to the stadium and I always saw them play. The current Hearts and Kotoko players are simply not up to the task” , Saka added.
Kotoko finished 4th in the final league standings of the 2022/23 season while Hearts of Oak escaped relegation following their away draw at Berekum Chelsea on Match-Day 34 to finish 12th on the league table.
