Hearts of Oak Set to Appoint A New Head Coach : The long search for a substantive head coach for Accra Hearts of Oak is almost over as the club shortlists the huge number of applicants interested in the job.
The Phobians used three different coaches last season as they nearly got relegated from the Ghana Premier League.
Samuel Boadu was sacked on 27th September 2022 following a draw against Asante Kotoko in Kumasi. His successor Slavko Matic was embarrassingly chased out of the club by some irate fans as assistant coach David Ocloo took charge of the first team to complete the season.
According to Graphic Sports Hearts have received applications from some foreign coaches, including those from The Netherlands, Italy and Nigeria, expressing interest in taking over the club.
“The position is open to both local and foreign coaches and some of them have submitted their CVs from Italy, Netherlands and Nigeria, among others,” the source revealed.
It is understood that some local coaches have also shown interest in the job, with the club believed to be keen on hiring the services of a local coach more than a foreigner, provided they are willing to work with the vision of the club.
Graphic Sports sources hinted that besides looking for a new coach, the club also intended to change the coaching structure of the club.
The sources said once a new coach was appointed, even though he would be the head coach of the club, he was expected to work under a technical director who would provide direction for the coach.
Accordingly, the coach will be appointed to work as the coach of the junior side, while the technical director will be the overall boss to who the coach would report.
“Because of the Academy, we are looking for an experienced person who would help us build the academy. We are taking our time to do that. He would be the overall boss and even the coach will be under him,” the source said.
