Hughton Says Absence of Andre Ayew and others a Big Loss : Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton says the absence of captain Andre Ayew , Alexander Djiku , Mohammed Salisu and Denis Odoi is a big loss to the Ghana team ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualification Match-Day Four encounter against Angola.
The Black Stars take on the Palancas Negras on Monday in Luanda after imposing a slim 1-0 win against the Angolans at the Babayara sports stadium on Thursday March 23rd.
Captain Ayew did not play any part of last Thursday’s match. He was subsequently ruled out of today’s game due to a knee injury according to the Ghana Football Association.
Djiku and Odoi started Thursday’s match but due to injuries , they are not part of the squad for the Match-Day Four qualifying match and as for Salisu he did not play at all.
Chris Hughton is quoted by ghanafa.org as follows :
“Their (Andre Ayew , Djiku , Salisu and Odoi) absence is a loss to the team because they are not only players in the squad but they are players who have been around and been part of the squad for a while.
But this is International football and this is why you have a squad prepared and always if its starters like in particular Denis Odoi and Alexander Djiku – both started then this is where you have a squad and it’s always an opportunity for somebody else.”
