“I am really struggling financially” – Incapacitated former Kotoko goalkeepers trainer Sampson Appiah cries for help !

Incapacitated Sampson Appiah Calls for Financial Help : The former Asante Kotoko goalkeepers trainer Sampson Appiah was one of the severely injured persons of the 12th July 2017 Kotoko team bus accident.

Appiah has spoken about his spine surgery and neglect by the Kumasi-based club after the team bus accident.

“I am always home and I am really struggling financially. From here to Komfo Anokye I pay 50 Cedis in and out. Where do I get this money from.”

The accident occurred around Nkawkaw when the bus transporting the players back to Kumasi after a league defeat at Inter Allies in Accra ran into a stationary truck.

Sampson Appiah stated that he was not seriously injured but he later realized that his spine has been affected. He added that he hasn’t received any money from the donations to the club after the accident.

“Well, it happened while working we went to play a game in Accra with Inter Allies and returning to Kumasi we had an accident. For me I had a few scratches on my face so I was not worried later on after two years then I started feeling pain in my waist.” , Appiah revealed to Dan Kwaku Yeboah.

“When I went to the hospital and the doctor told me to do a scan and he saw that my spinal cord has shifted.

He told me that if they had checked earlier they would have pushed it back. I wasn’t aware and that time to I didn’t know I was injured I thought I was safe,”

” Kotoko did not do anything for me because what I know is if you are working with someone and the person gets into an accident at least give the person some money to buy egg to bless his soul,”

Appiah continued :

“Because an accident in which someone died is not a small thing. Those that were on the bus we didn’t get anything all the money donated to the club he ( Dr. Kyei) did not give us anything. Nothing was given to us.

You can ask everybody. The Asantehene even formed a committee and they called us we thought something good will happen we didn’t hear anything. Nobody got anything.

The insurance too , we did not get anything. The insurance company told us it was a group insurance and not individual and that they have given everything to the club but got nothing”

It was my sibling who helped me to do my surgery and the Kotoko legends. But the club itself did nothing for me. No Kotoko management member or board member has even visited me.

It is only the Kotoko legends and Issah Najau and Ohene Brenya who have come here to visit me. I can’t even go out. If I will go out then I am either going to the gym or hospital. I am always home and I am really struggling financially. From here to Komfo Anokye I pay 50 Cedis in and out. Where do I get this money from.

The doctor transferred me to McKeown gym. One month I paid 2000 Cedis and they asked me to pay again. Where I’m going to get this money from.” , Sampson Appiah concluded.
