Kotoko Coach Dr. Ogum to Start Both Albert and Poku: Returning striker Kwame Poku has signed a 30-month contract and was presented to the Asante Kotoko fans last Sunday at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium before the Porcupine Warriors’ 1-0 win over Hearts of Oak.
Kotoko boss Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum has favoured a 3-4-3 formation for majority of this season, but the ex-WAFA gaffer is ready to alter is strategy to accommodate two of his attackers including main marksman, Albert Amoah.
Ogum’s tactical switch could see him line up in a 3-4-1-2 with Baba Yahaya as the attacking midfielder behind the two attackers which can be an Albert-Poku, Albert-Peter Amidu, or Albert-Saaka Dauda combination while the likes of Elvis Kyei Baffour and Fernando Bassey would wait for their chances.
Albert Amoah, who scored a stoppage-time winner to condemn Hearts to their first defeat in six games, is the leading scorer of the Reds this campaign with 9 goals in 13 games across all competitions, with seven of his strikes happening in the 2024-25 Ghana Premier League.
Following Kotoko’s huge win against rivals Hearts of Oak last Sunday, the former Great Olympics forward said he is unfazed and relaxed after the arrival of Kwame Poku.
”I am not afraid of competition. I do not fear his (Kwame Poku) arrival. At the end of the day, it is the team that benefits. If I do not score, he can score. So that is positive for us.” Albert said as reported by Ghana Sports Market.
If Ogum decides to deploy a 3-4-1-2 set up, Ntim Manu would continue to command a leading role in the central midfield with the other berth to be contested by Emmanuel Antwi and Kyei Dwamena.
The back three of Justice Blay, Joseph Ablorh, and Samba O’Neil picks itself while the wing backs Patrick Asiedu and Lord Amoah are expected to keep their starting places.
Despite Camara Mohammed’s costly errors, Ogum has kept faith in the Guinean shot stopper and Frederick Asare is expected to keep warming the bench.
