Kotoko Coach Ogum Reveals Ultimate Ambition: Asante Kotoko head coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum has succeeded in turning his team’s fortunes after the Porcupine Warriors picked up four successive league victories to move second in the Ghana Premier League with 27 points and the boss now sees a second GPL title as a realistic target.

Kotoko had lost four in a row and were winless in five before the transformation. A 2-0 win against Aduana FC in Dormaa was all they needed to revive their faltering season. More successes followed against Hearts of Oak, Dreams FC, and Gold Stars last time out.

”He really wants to take this side to Africa. That is his biggest ambition,” a source close to the former WAFA boss hinted to Ghana Sports Market.

”He won the league (2020/21), but because of what happened after that season, he left and could not manage in Africa. This time around, he wants to win at least one title, which can be the league or the FA Cup. That will see Kotoko play in Africa with him. He really wants that.”, the source added.

Ogum’s resignation following the title-winning campaign saw his successor Seydou Zerbo oversee Kotoko’s two CAF Champions League matches against RC du Kadiogo. The Porcupine Warriors won 1-0 in Cotonou, but lost by the same score in Kumasi before missing out on penalties.

The Kotoko boss’ intent to manage in Africa for the first time in his coaching career is evident is his strong starting lineup against Future Stars on 1st December in the MTN FA Cup. As some coaches usually give minutes to fringe players in Cup matches, the gaffer rather paraded his typical Ghana Premier League lineup against the lower-tier side.

Camara Mohammed had defenders Justice Blay, Samba O’Neil, Joseph Ablorh, Patrick Asiedu, and Lord Amoah in front of him. In midfield, Andrew Ntim Manu was joined by Baba Yahaya while the attacking unit was made of Saaka Dauda, Albert Amoah, and Elvis Kyei Baffour.

The Reds won 2-0 with both goals coming from striker Amoah as Ogum and his team cruised to the Round of 32 where they will visit Acceler8z FC.

Kotoko’s resurgence sees them as one of the hot favourites for 2024/25 Ghana Premier League as they sit second, just three points adrift of leaders Heart of Lions. Kotoko travel to Medeama next before matches against Vision FC and Karela United follow.
