Legon Cities boss Maxwell Konadu explains how they got the equalizer against Asante Kotoko on Thursday

Maxwell Konadu Reacts to Kotoko 1-1 Draw on Thursday : Legon Cities head coach Maxwell Konadu spoke about the 1-1 draw between his team and Asante Kotoko on Thursday during a Week 24 Ghana Premier League match at the El Wak stadium in the Greater Accra region.

The spoils were shared as Richard Boadu’s 15th minute penalty for the Porcupine Warriors was cancelled by substitute Alex Aso of Legon Cities ten minutes after the hour mark.

Read every word from the post-game interview of the former Asante Kotoko head coach Maxwell Konadu.

On his views about the match and how they equalized :

“I think it was a keenly contested game. The match was very very difficult for us especially in the first half.

I mean we went in and re-strategize and when we came in for the second half you saw that our opponents were loading their backline. They were playing five men in defence so we kept on pushing and pushing until we had the equalizer.

After that it was a ding-dong affair and 1-1 we thank God and move on because we did everything tactically to win the game but we couldn’t.”

On Samuel Armah’s glorious opportunity :

“We had a decent chance to score , it fell the away of Armah but he decided to use the toe instead of using the inside of the foot to maybe chip the ball over the goalkeeper but that is a game.

It is past and gone and we can’t bring it back. We only have to keep pushing and keep fighting until we climb up the ladder.”

On the second half performance of his team this season :

“This match we strategically planned , I mean we wanted to end the match very very strong and that is what happened. Alex (Aso) is a starter to us but we decided to pull him back because of the second half because we know the power he has , the effort he can bring on board.

So we brought him in the second half and it paid off. We were lucky it paid off and we kept pushing to get the second goal but it couldn’t just happen. ”

On relegation threat :

“Oh (he chuckles) , we will not go to relegation. The team will not be relegated. We will climb up the ladder , trust me we will climb up. ”

Legon Cities are 14th placed on the league log with 28 points from 24 matches played whilst Thursday’s draw sees Kotoko at the 6th position on 35 points in 23 games played.

What next?

Cities now travel to Bibiani Gold Stars on 3rd April during Week 25 whilst the reigning champions of Ghana are back on home soil against Real Tamale United on Sunday.
