OFFICIAL : AS Monaco announce the signing of Ghana defender Mohammed Salisu !

Mohammed Salisu Joins AS Monaco : AS Monaco have announced the arrival of central defender Mohammed Salisu from Southampton Football Club. The 24-year-old Ghana international has signed a 5-season deal and is now tied to the Principality club until June 2028.

Trained in Spain at Real Valladolid, where he made his professional debut in the Copa del Rey at just 19 years of age (2018-19 season), Mohammed Salisu became the next season, one of the main players in the team and enjoyed a full season in the Spanish first division (34 games, 1 goal and 1 assist).

He discovered the Premier League at 21

Despite his young age, his consistency and level of performance in La Liga opened the doors to the Premier League, and more specifically to Southampton, where he moved in the summer of 2020.

Renowned in England for his athleticism and aerial ability, the 1.91m centre-back became an important part of the Saints squad over the years, playing a total of 80 games for the club, including 68 in the Premier League.

Being called up and scoring at the 2022 World Cup

Called up to the national team for the first time in September 2022, the native of Accra was included in Otto Addo’s squad for Ghana’s fourth-ever World Cup a few weeks later.

During the tournament in Qatar, Mohammed Salisu even scored in the 3-2 win over South Korea, his second goal in six appearances for the Black Stars.

Salisu thus follows a number of Ghanaian internationals to play their trade in the French Ligue 1 such as the maestro Abedi Ayew Pele , his sons Andre Ayew and Jordan Ayew , John Mensah , Jonathan Mensah , John Boye , Asamoah Gyan and Kamaldeen Sulemana.

Others are Majeed Waris , Alexander Djiku , Nicholas Opoku , Michael Essien , Gideon Mensah and co.
