Nantes Terminate Player’s Contract over CAF U17 AFCON : FC Nantes have terminated the contract of a young player after his decision to represent Algeria at the CAF U17 AFCON and that player is Younes Benali.
Nantes are in the news for the bad reasons again.
The club have reportedly broken Younes Benali’s contract because the player chose to play at the CAF U17 African Cup of Nation with Algeria.
The tournament is however not part of the calendar of FIFA.
Asked about this on Monday at a press conference before the young Fennecs match against Senegal, the latter – who decided to join the rally without the agreement of his club – returned to this episode:
“I am in love with FC Nantes . It’s my favorite club. I have always respected FC Nantes, I did everything well there” , assured Younes Benali.
“Now I had the opportunity to represent my country, which is not given to everyone. With the club, we did not really agree on a few points. I decided to go to Algeria, I was not disrespectful, I did not do bad things. You have to respect my choice” , the teenager added.
The French club was also in the news after the head coach dismissed Jaouen Hadjam for a Ligue 1 game as the player decided to fast and play during the Ramadan period.
