Nasiru Gani on Asante Kotoko This Season : Asante Kotoko are placed 7th on the 2022/23 betPawa Ghana Premier League standings on 34 points in 22 matches played and former striker of the Porcupine Warriors Nasiru Gani is not impressed by the season of his former side this term.
The Reds won the Premier League title last season playing some spectacular football under former head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum but the team has failed to repeat the form in the current campaign and Gani who played for Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak has expressed his feelings.
“I have watched them this season and they have not been convincing enough. As champions this is not the type of football they should be playing.” , Gani told Fox FM in Kumasi.
“For example look at their performance against Hearts of Oak in Accra recently. They did not do well in my opinion. I know that form does not necessarily count for Hearts and Kotoko matches but in terms of the overall season has Kotoko been at the level?” , he quizzed.
“I think the Kotoko players have relaxed this season. When you watch their games you will understand me. Look at the Hearts players , they were always going for the 50-50 balls.”
However despite not impressed by Kotoko’s season so far , Gani believes the team can still win the league if the players show more character and determination.
“Yes they can win the league if they talk to themselves and improve. They should challenge themselves more and I believe they can still defend the title.
There should be more competition in the team also. During our time there were games I started and played and Arhin Duah was on the bench. You could imagine what that meant. More competition” , Nasiru Gani elaborated.
Kotoko are up against Legon Cities on Thursday afternoon at the El Wak stadium for their Week 24 fixture.
Meanwhile the Porcupine Warriors are seven points adrift of league leaders Aduana FC who were held at Berekum Chelsea on Wednesday.
