Nigeria hold Ghana in CHAN Qualifier

Nigeria Hold Ghana in CHAN Qualifier in Accra: Ghana were held to scoreless draw by Nigeria in the first leg qualifier of the 2024 African Nations Championship Western Zone B at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.

The tournament finals is set to be hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda from 1st – 28th February, 2025.

Black Galaxies head coach Mas-Ud Didi Dramani handed starting places to Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare as well Isaac Afful of Samartex, Kamaradini Mamudu of Medeama, Razak Simpson of Nations FC, and Ebenezer Abban of Heart of Lions.

In midfield, skipper Issah Yakubu of Basake Holy Stars was joined by Attram de Visser’s Hafiz Ibrahim, and Manuel Mantey of Medeama.

Asante Kotoko striker Albert Amoah, Berekum Chelsea’s Stephen Amankona, and Mustapha Yakubu of Heart of Lions formed the attacking trio.

The second leg is scheduled for 28th December and the winner advances to the CHAN finals.

Mustapha Papa saw his 56th-minute strike come off the upright as Ghana struggled to create any clear cut goals scoring opportunities.

Didi Dramani introduced Medeama’s Derrick Fordjour, Thought FC attacker Jery Afriyie, Kotoko midfielder Emmanuel Antwi, and Nations FC’s Abdul Karim, but the Ghanaian team failed to score as Nigeria leave with a crucial result.
