Obeng Kwadwo Junior has fired a subtle dig at Hearts of Oak in a poignant expression of gratitude to Heart of Lions president Randy Abbey following Lions’ 1-0 Ghana Premier League away victory over Asante Kotoko on Sunday.
The left-footed striker bagged the only goal of the game in the 28th minute when capitalizing on a sloppy defending and a goalkeeper blunder by Mohammed Camara.
The Kotoko keeper had come out of his territory to unsuccessfully deal with a weak header pass from Albert Amoah, presenting a glorious opportunity to the Lions attacker to direct the ball into an empty net.
Obeng joined the Phobians from Nea Salamina/Wamanafo Mighty Royals in 2018 and went on to help them to the 2020-21 GPL, 2020-21 and 2021-22 FA Cup titles during the Samuel Boadu reign in charge.
The lanky forward, who left the Phobians in January 2024 after missing the second round of last season, signed for Bashiru Hayford’s Lions on free transfer for the current campaign.
After opening his scoring account for his new team, the attacker thanked club president Randy Abbey in an emotional show of appreciation.
“I dedicate my NASCO award to Dr. Randy Abbey because when some people disowned me, he saw something positive in me,” Obeng Kwadwo said after the match at the Len Clay Stadium.
