Otto Addo Hails Legend Andre Ayew: Black Stars head coach Otto Addo says it is an undeniable fact that Andre Ayew is a legend of Ghana football following the decision of the former not to select the latter in the latest Black Stars roster for the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualification matches.
Ghana take on Mali in Bamako on June 6th during Match-Day Two of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying series before welcoming Central African Republic four days later in Kumasi in a Match-Day Three fixture.
“I had a long talk with Andre and for now he is not part of the team. He is a legend but he is not part of the team now. It was a difficult decision honestly. I like him but this is the decision we took”, Otto Addo told the media on Wednesday.
“It is not like we totally greed but I gave him the reasons why he is not part of the team. You can never say never. He can come back to the team, but for now this is the decision we have made”, Addo added.
Ayew, 34, is Ghana’s all-time most capped player with 120 international matches played under his belt and 24 goals scored for the Black Stars.
