Pep Guardiola Wins 3rd UEFA Champions League Title : Whilst Jose Mourinho lost the 2023 Europa League final match to Sevilla in Budapest last Wednesday , Pep Guardiola , seen as Mourinho’s greatest managerial rival , just clinched the 2023 FA Cup trophy with Manchester City against Manchester United and the UEFA Champions League title against Inter Milan all in the month of June.
The Spanish manager has now won more Champions League titles than Mourinho , Alex Ferguson and many other great managers in history. The Instanbul success is the third for the former Blaugrana boss who also lifted the title in 2009 and 2011.
Guardiola was appointed coach of Barcelona B on 21 June 2007 with Tito Vilanova as his assistant. Under his guidance, the team subsequently won their Tercera División group and qualified for the 2008 Segunda División B playoffs, which the team won, thereby achieving promotion.
FC Barcelona President Joan Laporta announced in May 2008 that Guardiola would be appointed manager of the senior Barcelona squad to replace Frank Rijkaard at the end of the 2007–08 season.
What followed was 14 trophies won in 4 years as Barcelona manager for a coach whose mainstream career began in May 2008.
On the other hand , the chance to become a top-tier manager arrived in September 2000 when Mourinho moved up from his role as assistant manager at Benfica to replace manager Jupp Heynckes after the fourth week of the Primeira Liga.
