On Wednesday section of the Ghanaian media reported that James Kwesi Appiah has been appointed as the coach of the Sudanese national team but Ghanasportsmarket.com reported that Appiah has not signed any contract.
As a matte of fact , there are talks ongoing between the Sudan FA and Kwesi Appiah who is waiting to meet Otumfour Osei Tutu II to seek his approval and blessing before reaching final agreement with the Sudanese.
Sudan failed to qualify for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations as head coach Badou Zaki left his role in August.
The top brass at the Sudan FA are convinced that the current interim management committee member of Asante Kotoko is the right manager to take charge of their national team for the upcoming qualification series of the 2026 FIFA World Cup which starts in November.
They know that he became the first Ghanaian coach to qualify the Black Stars for the 2014 FIFA World Cup humiliating almighty Egypt by 6-1 in the play-off first leg in Kumasi. Appiah was also the assistant coach of the Ghana national team at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
The former Ghana international defender also has previous experience with Sudanese football, when he coached Al Khartoum between 2014 and 2017.
These are the main reasons why the Sudanese think Kwesi Appiah is a suitable trainer for their vacant managerial job.
“There are currently talks with them (Sudan FA) but I am waiting for the approval and release of Otumfour Osei Tuu II” , James Kwesi Appiah told Ghanasportspage.com on Wednesday.
