Accra Hearts of Oak completed the signing of defender David Oppong Afrane from King Faisal FC on September 22nd , 2023 but the Phobians have not been able to field the highly rated center back and as things stand at the moment , they cannot play their newly recruited defender.
According to Ghanasportspage.com , the Continental Club Masters are prohibited from using the talented footballer.
The Phobians concluded the transfer of Afrane when the main transfer window of the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season has shut down. Hearts of Oak thought they could register their new man thanks to a special dispensation by the Ghana Football Association.
“Yes we have signed him and he can now start playing for us” , Hearts of Oak board member Alhaji Brimah Akanbi confirmed to Ghanasportspage.com on Friday September 22nd.
However , that is not the case as Afrane (in black shirt in the picture below) has not been part of the matchday squad of the last two games of the club following his move to the Ghanaian giants and this is due to the fact that FIFA imposed a transfer embargo against the Accra-based side after failing to pay an amount of 14 ,002 USD to their former head coach Slavko Matic.
The Phobians have reportedly asked for clarifications from the GFA but as things stand now Hearts of Oak have not completely got Oppong Afrane registered.
If the 2000 CAF Champions League winners are able to settle their differences with Matic and succeed in getting the special dispensation from the GFA , then the former King Faisal player can start playing for the team of Martin Koopman even before the second transfer window of the season is open.
Meanwhile the Phobians play against Dreams FC on Sunday at the Accra sports stadium during match-day four of the Ghana Premier League as they seek to bounce back to winning ways following their Week 3 reverse at Bofoakwa Tano last Saturday.
