Secret Pact Between Samuel Eto’o and Rigobert Song : Many fans are calling for the sacking of head coach of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon , Rigobert Song , but a secret pact between the President of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) Samuel Eto’o and Song means sacking the latter remains highly impossible.
In two 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualification (AFCON) matches , Song and Cameroon failed to record a win against Namibia.
The Brave Warriors led by the dangerous attacker Peter Shalulile drew 1-1 in Yaounde on March 24th before producing an excellent performance to defeat the Indomitable Lions by 2-1 at the Dobsonville stadium in Johannesburg on March 28th.
All hope is not lost for Cameroon to qualify for Ivory Coasty 2023 but the fact that the team flopped in two consecutive games against a comparatively lesser football nation is the source of concern and many Cameroonians want Song sacked.
Cameroon do not lack talents but they have failed to play satisfactorily under the former center-back who won two AFCON titles in 2000 and 2002.
Eto’o and Song are great friends dating back to their days at the national team. They won big things together and the latter , even when he lacked good health , went around the place as a campaign team member of the Barcelona and Inter Milan great during the FECAFOOT presidential elections.
It has now been revealed by the Cameroon media especially Camerounweb as seen by GhanaSportsMarket.com that Eto’o made a promise to appoint his former national teammate as the manager of the Indomitable Lions once he gets elected as FECAFOOT boss.
Eto’o won the elections indeed and did not renege on his promise by making sure Song is given the head coach of Cameroon role.
The FECAFOOT boss is at the moment under pressure to find a better coach to handle the national selection.
People are now observing what decision will be taken in the coming time since it is inconceivable to think that the Cameroon national team head coach job is given to Song as long as Eto’o remains the FECAFOOT President.
