Sierra Leone Held in Third AFCON Qualifier : Sierra Leone were held to a frustrating 2-2 drawn game by Sao Tome and Principe on Wednesday during Match-Day Three of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualification series as Argentina-based footballer Luis Leal netted a brace for the visiting team.
The Group A match , a home fixture of the Leon Stars , was played at the Adrar stadium in Agadir , Morocco.
It was the visitors who opened the scoring in the 43rd minute through Luis Leal and it was the only goal of the match of the first half.
Back from the locker room, Mustapha Bundu equalized for Sierra Leone in the 48th minute.
But another strike from Arsenal Sarandi attacker Leal in the 59th minute allowed Sao Tomé to restore their lead before Sierra Leone equalized again through Abu Komeh in the 78th minute.
This result does not help either team. With two points now, Sierra Leone are third in Group A, while Sao Tome are bottom with one point.
The return match takes place on March 26th at the same venue in Morocco.
Leaders of the Group Nigeria take on Guinea-Bissau in Abuja on March 24th. The Super Eagles have six points in two games and they will be looking forward to add more points.
