Stephen Appiah Wants Legends to Lead the GFA : Former Black Stars of Ghana captain Stephen Appiah says he is waiting to see the day a former legend of the game will lead the Ghana Football Association.

“It is sad that the legends don’t get the opportunity to lead our football. The kind of people we can pick phone and call , you will be shocked” , Stephen Appiah told Sompa FM in Sunyani.

“Football nowadays is run by footballers. It is not only about grammar.

I am hoping one of the legends of Ghana will lead Ghana football one day and he will be massively supported by the others” , Appiah added.

Elsewhere in Cameroon , former Indomitable Lion Samuel Eto’o is the Cameroon Football Federation President and the likes of Kalusha Bwalya and Hani Abdo Reda are ex footballers who led the soccer federations of their respective countries.

In Ivory Coast Didier Drogba unsuccessfully run for the Presidential elections of the Ivory Coast Football Federation and as for George Weah he went more steps ahead to become the President of his country Liberia.

That is what the former Juventus player wants to see in Ghana where Kurt Okraku’s first four year mandate expires in October 2023.

Big names such as Abedi Ayew Pele , Anthony Yeboah , Sammy Kuffour , Karim Abdul Razak ,  Ibrahim Sunday , Michael Essien , Asamoah Gyan , Sulley Muntari have not been involved with football administration in terms of the GFA since they hanged their boots and Appiah wants to see a change.
