Substitute Emmanuel Yeboah Scores Twice Against Congo : CFR Cluj player Emmanuel Yeboah came off the bench to score two goals as the Black Meteors of Ghana defeated Congo by 3-2 in a thrilling Group A match during the opening day of the 2023 U23 Africa Cup of Nations.
Dreams FC’s Sylvester Simba and Skipper of the team Daniel Afriyie Barnieh struggled in the opening 45 minutes and the Ghana U23 head coach Ibrahim Tanko did not waste time in replacing the duo with Hafiz Ibrahim and Emmanuel Yeboah at the start of the second half.
The substitutions brought positive results as Yeboah assisted Ernest Nuamah to score the first goal of the game in the 50th minute before the CFR Cluj striker registered his name on the score sheet in the 76th.
Ghana were awarded a penalty in the 79th minute as Arko-Mensah was brought down in the box.
Abdul Fatawu Issahaku stepped forward to take it and his effort was saved by Congo goalkeeper Dhody Foutou but a replay was ordered by the referees as the keeper moved off his line before the spot kick was taken.
Nuamah Appiah decided to take the second attempt but he also failed to beat Foutou and once again the Congolese goalkeeper was adjudged to have moved off his line before the kick was taken.
A second retake was thus ordered and this time Emmanuel Yeboah made no mistakes from the spot to make it 3-0 for the Ghana U23 team for his second goal of the game.
Congo threatened a comeback with two goals in two minutes scored during additional time but the Ghana Olympic team held on to win 3-2.
