“There is certainly a problem” – Wayne Rooney Analyses England’s Unimpressive Euro Form

England finished top of their Group at the ongoing UEFA Euro 2024, picking up five points in 3 matches in played.

The Three Lions will face Slovakia in the Round of 16 on June 30th. However, fans have not been overly impressed by the overall performance of Gareth Southgate’s team, losing finalists of the of the last Euro edition in 2020.

“There are so many really good attacking players in the team – Harry Kane, Phil Foden, Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka. We are seeing them perform on a weekly basis for their clubs. There is certainly a problem.”, former England striker Wayne Rooney told the BBC.

England secured a 1-0 win over Serbia in their opening group match, drew 1-1 against Denmark before their last group encounter ended 0-0 against Slovenia.

To provide a proper context to Rooney’s concerns, it is worth noting that Kane netted 44 goals in 45 games in his first season at Bayern Munich as he picked the top goal scorer award of the 2023/24 Bundesliga with 36 goals.

Foden was exceptional for Manchester City, Bellingham had an incredible debut season at Real Madrid while Saka was a main man for Arsenal.

However, these players have not been able to replicate their top club form at the national team and Southgate would hope his best players step up from the knockout stage.
