2022/23 GPL Week 27 Wrap : Week 27 of the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League was completed on Sunday April 24th as Accra Lions , Bechem United , Asante Kotoko , Dreams FC and Nsoatreman FC recorded home wins with Berekum Chelsea and Legon Cities picking victories on the road.
Lions roared on Friday at the Accra Sports Stadium :
Seidu Basit scored four goals in either half as Accra Lions stunned Medeama SC 4-2 at the Accra Sports stadium on Friday.
Basit hit a brace in either half as the Lions roared to a mesmerizing display to record one of their best results of the campaign.
Accra Lions went into the game looking to end their five game winless run whilst Medeama SC stepped onto the pitch seeking to close the gap on leaders Aduana FC.
Basit opened the scoring in the 9th minute after he got on the end of a Emmanuel Dzigbah ball to smash home with his left foot.
The young forward added to tally in the 33rd minute – Evans Botchway, rounded up Fatawu Hamidu before sending a delightful ball into the path of Basit who timed his run before firing home.
Back from the break, Dennis Fordjuor won a penalty for Medeama after his strike hit the hand of defender Samuel Gyimah. Vincent Atingah converted the spot kick in the 56th minute.
Atinga scored another penalty seven minutes later after Medeama SC were awarded another penalty – this time Derrick Fordjuor was fouled in the box.
With the game heading to a 2-2 draw, Accra Lions scored two late goals in injury time to win the game 4-2. Remember Boateng’s delicious free kick met the head of Basit who got his hat-trick.
The home side put the nail in the coffin in the 98th minute after Basit was picked up by Daniel Oduro before outwitting his marker and firing home his fourth.
Accra Lions are now 6th in the League table with 41 points whilst Medeama SC remains in second place 44 points.
Hafiz Wontah Konkoni Netted 13th goal of the season against Hearts of Oak :
Konkoni scored the only goal of the game from the spot in the 22nd minute at the Nana Ansu Gyebour Park in Bechem on Saturday.
It was his 13th league goal of the season as he is now the top scorer of the Ghana Premier League ahead of Chelsea’s Mezack Afriyie.
Kotoko Defeat Aduana in Kumasi :
League champions Asante Kotoko came from behind to beat leaders Aduana FC 2-1 at the Baba Yara Sports stadium in Kumasi on Sunday night.
Rocky Dwamena, Eric Zeze, Richmond Lamptey, Richard Boadu and Maxwell Agyemang took charge of the game in the early stages in search of the opener until Isaac Mintah found the opening goal in the 28th minute.
Asante Kotoko snatched the equalizer through Steven Mukwala in the 38th minute as he smartly beat Joseph Addo for the leveler.
Asante Kotoko shot into the lead in the 48th minute as Eric Zeze, fired home from the edge of the box for the second goal. Rocky Dwamena picked the ball from midfield before picking up Eric Zeze who shot into the bottom corner as Aduana FC goalkeeper Joseph Addo struggled to deal with it.
The visitors created chances in search of the equalizer but Asante Kotoko defended gallantly to protect their lead as they held on to win the contest 2-1.
Despite the setback, Aduana FC remains on top of the table with 47 points – four points ahead of second placed Bechem United FC while Asante Kotoko moves to 4th with 42 points.
In Anyinase Legon Cities stun Karela United to boost survival chances :
Legon Cities recorded an impressive away victory at Karela United on Sunday to boost their survival chances as they romped to a 2-0 win on the road.
Michel Otou scored in the first half before Alex Aso added the second goal in the closing stages of the encounter.
Otou got on the end of a fine ball from midfield to fire home the opener in the 15th minute. The visitors held on to the slim lead until Alex Aso sealed the win in injury time to claim three points. Both teams finished the game with 10 men.
Legon Cites have now moved to the 12th spot with 34 points – two points ahead of the relegation zone. The defeat leaves Karela United FC third from bottom with 32 points.
In Nsoatre :
Nsoatreman FC left it late to beat King Faisal 1-0 at Konamansah Park on Sunday. Samuel Ofori scored in the 93rd minute to give the newly promoted side the maximum points – bringing to an end King Faisal’s four match unbeaten run.
The game was heading to a draw until Ofori’s late strike.
Tamale City refused to be defeated against Oly :
Sampson Eduku broke the hearts of Accra Great Olympics as he scored in injury time to give Tamale City a vital away point in their fight against the drop. Eduku smashed home from close range to cancel Christopher Nettey’s first half strike.
The goal takes his season tally to 10 goals in as many matches in the season.
In Dawu :
Dreams FC scored in either half to beat FC Samartex 1996 2-0 at the Theatre of Dreams, Dawu on Sunday. Ali Huzaif opened the scoring in the 20th minute as he smartly went round the Samartex backline to slot home.
After a 1-0 lead in the first half Godfred Atuahene added the second goal in the 69th minute to win the day for the Still Believe lads.
Berekum Chelsea defeat Gold Stars in Bibiani :
At Bibiani – Prince Anane scored late to give Berekum Chelsea their first away victory in the League following a 1-0 win over Bibiani GoldStars at the Duns Park.
Earlier on Saturday, Akyem Oda Kotoku Royals played out a goalless draw against Real Tamale United at the Theatre of Dreams at Dawu.
