Chelsea’s New Shirt Sponsorship Deal Blocked by Premier League : The Premier League have refused to sanction a sponsorship deal between Chelsea and American streaming service Paramount Plus due to fears it would upset the competition’s broadcasters.
The Blues are desperate to secure a new partnership after scrapping their £40m-a-year contract with Three and appeared to be close to a solution after zeroing in on an agreement with American streaming service Paramount Plus.
But the Daily Mail report that the club have now been told the deal isn’t allowed as it would upset the Premier League’s broadcast partners, such as Sky Sports and BT Sport, despite the fact Paramount Plus isn’t available to customers in the UK.
As a result, Chelsea have turned their attention back to striking a deal with online casino Stake, despite a looming ban on betting sponsorships and significant fan backlash.
It’s understood the Premier League’s refusal to sanction the agreement with Paramount Plus left Chelsea bosses astounded.
They were informed a deal would not be permitted under the Deed of License – the contract between club and Premier League which covers a wide range of broadcasting and media matters.
The mess leaves Chelsea in a precarious position with pre-season approaching, particularly given the negative fan sentiment toward a deal with Stake and fellow frontrunners Allianz reportedly offering the club a mere £20m-a-year.
