Former Ghana Referees Chief Alex Quartey hails GFA’s decision to pay referees weekly

Alex Quartey Hails GFA Decision To Pay Referees Weekly : Former Ghana Referees Association Chairman , Alex Quartey , has lauded the Ghana Football Association’s decision to pay Ghana Premier League referees on a weekly basis.

The Ghana Football Association President , Kurt E.S Okraku , announced at the 29th Ordinary Congress of the association in Kumasi on Monday July 10th that Ghana Premier League referees will now be paid weekly and Quartey has lauded the initiative.

According to the GFA , the new payment method will take effect from the upcoming 2023/24 season.

“I think this is great. It will help the referee a lot. I mean referees face too many problems when they travel to handle matches , they don’t have hotel , because they don’t have the money for hotel and so if they will now be paid every week , I think it is a fantastic news.” , he told GhanaSportsMarket.com.

During his time as a referee , Quartey was adjudged best referee in the country five times.

This announcement of this decision follows the admission of the GFA president that the country still faces refereeing and coaching challenges.
