Seydou Zerbo says he could have done better with Asante Kotoko if he had remained head coach of the Porcupine Warriors till the end of the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League season.
Chief Executive Officer Nana Yaw Amponsah recently revealed the club’s management did not want to part ways with the French-speaking trainer because opponents hardly created chances against Zerbo’s Kotoko team and that fans pressure forced them to sack the Burkina Faso national.
“Surely I could have done better things with Kotoko in the league but unfortunately I had to leave. If you look at the league table , Aduana were on top and led Kotoko with three or four points but it is not Aduana that eventually won the league. Medeama rather did. I am an optimistic coach and I knew that once I get all my players fit , we could have won the league. We had too many players injured and these were major issues for the team.” , Seydou Zerbo said on Focal Sports Show of Kumasi-based Fox FM on Monday.
“Look at Medeama , yes they defeated us in Kumasi but I also defeated them at their home. So why not , we could have won the league if I had stayed because as I said the team on top of the table for many weeks that is Aduana did not win it” , he added.
The Reds finished 4th on the final league standings of the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League season.
