Asante Kotoko remain one of the biggest and most successful sides in the country, but their league journey over the last six completed Ghana Premier League seasons has been a mixture of triumph and inconsistency.

Kotoko’s strongest recent campaign came in the 2021/22 season when they clinched the Ghana Premier League title under Dr. Narteh Prosper Ogum with an impressive 67 points.

That title-winning run restored belief among supporters and re-established the club as the dominant force in the country.

However, maintaining that level proved difficult in the years that followed.

Asante Kotoko’s last 6 full league finishes

  • 2025/26 – 7th place, 49 points (season ends on May 24, 2026)
  • 2024/25 – 3rd place, 58 points
  • 2023/24 – 6th place, 49 points
  • 2022/23 – 4th place, 52 points
  • 2021/22 – 1st place, 67 points
  • 2020/21 – 2nd place, 57 points

According to Bari91.com, after finishing fourth in 2022/23 and sixth in 2023/24, Kotoko showed signs of improvement by ending the 2024/25 campaign in third place with 58 points.

Still, many fans believed the club should have mounted a stronger title challenge considering its history and expectations.

The current 2025/26 season has again highlighted the club’s inconsistency. Heading into the final day, Kotoko sit seventh in the 18-team Ghana Premier League table, as they are leading Swedru All Blacks 1-0 at halftime in Kumasi.

For a club with a rich legacy and massive fanbase, the pressure to return to the summit of Ghana football remains as high as ever.
