Charles Taylor on Why Andre Ayew Left Ghana Camp : Former Ghana international winger Charles Taylor alleges that the communication from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) that captain Andre Ayew was injured and therefore ruled out of the Africa Cup of Nations qualification match against Angola in Luanda is untrue.
The Nottingham Forest winger was not involved in the 1-0 win of the Black Stars against the Angolans at the Babayara stadium on Thursday March 23rd.
“Ghana captain Andre Ayew has been ruled out of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Angola after sustaining a knee injury on Thursday.
Ayew slipped on his way to the dressing room and hurt his knee as findings of the MRI scan have meant that he has to return to his club for further treatment.
“The 33 year-old will not travel with the squad to Luanda for the return leg which takes place on Monday.” , the GFA said in an official statement on March 25th.
Ayew , 113 caps for Ghana , was subsequently ruled out of the reverse qualifier in Luanda but Charles Taylor during his punditry duties on Angel TV believes the GFA did not tell the correct story.
“It was okay to exclude the injured players who left the team but not entirely great because we know what they can do for the team but I’m struggling to believe the excuse for Dede that he is injured because he didn’t even play the game, so where was the injury from?,” the former Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko winger alleged.
“The medical team confirmed it but I’m not sure he is injured. He left out of anger and the medical team covered up to save him from backlash.” , Taylor added.
