Abdulai Gazale Reacts to Legon Cities Draw on March 30th : Asante Kotoko picked a point from their Week 24 Ghana Premier League game against Legon Cities at the El Wak Stadium on Thursday afternoon.
Richard Boadu converted a 15th minute penalty to put the reigning Ghana champions ahead but Alex Aso netted a second half equalizer to salvage a point for the home team as the game ended 1-1.
Acting head coach of the Porcupine Warriors Abdulai Gazale reacted following his maiden game in charge since replacing head coach Seydou Zerbo who was sacked on Monday March 27th.
On his reaction to the 1-1 draw :
“We came here with the mindset that we are coming to take the three points but unfortunately we conceded a second half goal from our opponents so we will take it that way.
On the El Wak pitch :
“Because we were thinking of getting the three maximum points especially looking at the way the pitch is it was not helping us at all. But we will go back to the drawing board , work on few things and then start to think about what to do in the next match.”
On whether his team should have won the game :
“In fact it is true that we should have won the game by three goals to one but unfortunately we were not able to convert those goal scoring chances. But still we are going to work on it , this ( goal scoring ) is what we are lacking and for the past two days that was what we have been working on.
How to finish , you know looking at the way we play , we were trying to use the wings and then finish it in the 18-yard area but unfortunately we were not able to finish the game well.
From tomorrow going that is what we are going to work on , we will work on the final touches that we need to do in order to convert always our chances like these.”
On the performance of Matheus De Souza :
“In fact what we asked him to do , he did exactly that because looking at the way he is , he is very tough on the ball , he is very defensive minded even though he is a striker.
You could see that whenever they pass the ball to their defenders and the goalkeeper he tried to push on to get the ball. He did exactly what we asked him to do and he has to continue with that one.”
On Kotoko’s title defence chances :
“Yes definitely , definitely because we are working hard. You know Kotoko without a trophy there is no league and the boys they know it in their mind. Once we are going back to the house we are going to work and then make sure that the rest of the games , we still have 11 matches to go.
If we are able to get at least wins out of that particular matches we are likely to come on top of the league and that is what we are going to work on.
We will pick the match one by one , the next match is against RTU , we are playing at home and we cannot afford to lose that match or we cannot afford to draw again.
So we are going back to Kumasi , work hard and get the three maximum points in order to close up the gap in the league table.”
