Alex Quartey Reveals Refereeing Challenges : Former Ghana referee Alex Quartey says one of the biggest challenges Ghana Premier League referees face every season is the temptation to do the bidding of powerful men in the game by the manipulation of matches.
According to the former Ghana Referee Association chairman , it takes bold and extremely honest referees to refused to be corrupted.
“I always say that good name is better than riches. As a referee you must stand firm not to be bribed or manipulated by the big men in the game.” , Alex Quartey told Kumasi-based Fox FM.
“Those big men will always try to approach you to do their bidding. Personally I was confronted by team officials and founders of clubs , I mean the powerful men behind the clubs plenty times during my time as a referee for me to manipulate matches or do their bidding but I always resisted them.”
“However I will not mention the specific matches. Both local and international , I was confronted to manipulate matches but I did not agree.
“Some of the referees do go their hotel and there are already ladies arranged for them but for me those things are material things. As a referee you just have to go and do your jo well.” , he added.
