Arsenal – Man City EPL Title Race : West Ham United came from two goals down to hold Arsenal to a 2-2 drawn game in their Week 31 Premier League match on Sunday afternoon as Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey lasted 67 minutes in the encounter.
With Manchester City defeating Leicester City by 3-1 to close the gap at the top to just four points , many people believe the team of Pep Guardiola are now the biggest favorites to lift the title and according to pundit Kofi Nti on Fox FM’s Focal Sports , he does not see The Gunners beating Manchester City to the title with rejected players and a coach from the Cityzens.
“Arteta was deputy coach at Manchester City under Pep Guardiola who was his master. Zinchenko was allowed to leave City for Arsenal because he was not needed anymore by Pep. Gabriel Jesus who is leading the attack at Arsenal was at City , they bought a better striker in Erling Haaland and so how can Arsenal beat City to the title?” , Kofi Nti quizzed on Fox FM’s Focal Sports on Monday.
Jesus scored in the 7th minute to put Arsenal ahead after Ben White delivered a clever pass for the Brazilian to slot home with a cool finish against The Hammers.
Three minutes later Arsenal made it 2-0 after Gabriel Martinelli sent a lofted cross into the West Ham area for skipper Martin Odegaard to connect with a quick low shot.
However West Ham staged a great comeback to equalize all the two goals. First , Brazilian defender Gabriel committed a poor penalty and Mohamed Said Benrahma successfully converted to make it 2-1 in the 33rd minute.
Arsenal then also had a penalty in the 52nd minute after Michail Antonio handled the ball in his area but Bukayo Saka failed to convert.
West Ham kept on to attack and were rewarded the second goal just three minutes after Saka’s penalty miss and it was Jarrod Bowen who netted the equalizer in the 55th minute.
Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey started the game for The Gunners but Mikel Arteta replaced the Black Stars player in the 67th minute with Leandro Trossard as he searched for the winner.
Arsenal now lead the Premier League with 74 points after 31 games played whilst second-placed Manchester City have 70 points in 30 matches contested and the title race advantage goes to Pep Guardiola’s side who have 8 more games to play.
City are also considered favorites to win the 2023 UEFA Champions League after imposing a strong 3-0 win over Bayern Munich in the fist leg of the quarter-finals.
“If Arsenal even fail to win the title and City do , it will not be a failure for the Gunners because City are a better side. For me no matter the outcome of the title race , Arsenal have still had a great season.” , the Fox pundit added.
