End of an Era at Asante Kotoko : It was on 22nd September in the year 2020 that Nana Yaw Amponsah unveiled the management team of the Porcupine Warriors following his appointment on August 7th as Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
The personalities that formed the management team were Emmanuel Newton Dasoberi as Administrative and Operations manager , David Obeng Nyarko as a special aid to the CEO , Moses Antwi Benefo as the communications officer.
Others were Eric Amoako Twum the commercial manager , Thomas Sevordzi as the finance officer , Dentaa Amoateng , Akua Pokuaa Kwarteng and Nilo Effori.
The first to leave the management team was Moses Antwi Benefo whose resignation from the club shocked many peopole.
In their first season , the Kotoko management did not win any titles. The Porcupine Warriors regrouped and won the the Ghana Premier League in the second season of the Amponsah-led management team.
Head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum who guided them to the title success in 2022 left his role but has returned to Kumasi as head coach of Kotoko and as an Interim Management Committee member.
Nana Yaw Amponsah’s third season ended without trophies and the team crushed out of the 2022/23 CAF Champions League under head coach Seydou Zerbo. Kotoko’s problems in the past few months includes financial constraints and it was publicly revealed by Otumfour Osei Tutu II on Saturday 23rd July that the salaries of the current Kotoko players have not been paid for more then three months.
With the current Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the Reds , Dasoberi and Ogum are old friends as the two worked together during the 2021/22 season.
Nana Yaw Amponsah and his team and the Kotoko board of directors did their part in the past three seasons and now there is a new direction with former Ghana international and head coach of the Black Stars Kwasi Appiah as a key part.
The IMC has taken over the management of the Ghanaian giants as the 2023/24 season is just around the corner.
